Ailsa Cottage is situated in the quiet and tranquil clachan of Auchenhew on the clifftops above Kildonan on the Isle of Arran. It is one of four attached dwellings on the site. Before being converted to a holiday cottage, Ailsa Cottage used to be a stable attached to Auchenhew House.
We bought Ailsa Cottage in 2021 and have completely renovated and upgraded the interior of the cottage and added doors from the bedrooms to provide direct access to the garden to make the most of the spectacular sea views.
We have put careful thought into what equipment to put into Ailsa Cottage. Whilst not wanting to over-burden a small cottage, we still want you to have all the equipment that helps to make your stay enjoyable. In the cottage you will find:

The newly fitted bathroom has a full-size bath with large over-bath dual head shower, WC and basin, shaver point and large heated towel rail.
The two bedrooms, one twin and one double, both have access to the rear balcony and private garden and have uninterrupted sea views across to Pladda, Ailsa Craig and the Ayrshire coast. The rooms are equipped with comfy beds and blackout thermal curtains. A hair dryer and digital clocks are also provided.
We want you to be cosy during your stay and the cottage is fitted with modern thermostatically controlled electric radiators, which you can adjust as you need.

There is a private (but not enclosed) patio and garden to the rear of the cottage and an additional private patio to the front of the property, conveniently located close to the kitchen for easy outdoor dining. Both patios have wooden picnic benches.
Ailsa Cottage is well suited for children, the accommodation is all on one level and we are able to provide a travel cot, highchair and children’s cutlery and plates. We also have a hand blender in the cottage to aid meal preparation for very young children and we also provide a range of age-appropriate toys and books, buckets and spades and crabbing lines and nets.
With prior discussion, we are able to accommodate up to two well behaved and house-trained pets. There are lots of lovely walks nearby, within a mile of the cottage you can access the beaches at Kildonan and forest trails at Eas Mor.
Ailsa Cottage is well placed for exploring the island, it is on the direct bus route for those travelling by public transport, there is direct road access from the cottage if you are circumnavigating the island by bike and you can access the Arran Coastal Way by foot from the cottage.

- Towels (a bath and hand towel) for each person staying
- Bed linen
- Hand towel for the kitchen
- Tea towels and oven gloves
Please note: We do not provide cot bedding, pet bedding or beach towels.
